About the publication

A small desk with a narrow brief.

Vextor Times writes about four parts of ordinary American life: learning to drive, eating well, living with animals, and going somewhere. We keep the list short enough to revise it, and every guide shows when it was last checked.

Why these four desks

Generic advice assumes a reader who is not doing anything in particular. Our guides start from specific situations: a 17-year-old with a test on Thursday, a couple deciding whether to tip on a pickup order, a new adopter whose dog has not eaten since Saturday, a driver working out whether a park reservation is worth the detour.

Those situations share a structure. There is an authority that sets the rule, a process that has to be followed, and a point where local variation matters. We write to that structure: what the rule says, what the process looks like, and where to confirm the part that changes.

We do not cover breaking news, politics, celebrity, or shopping deals. Those are well served elsewhere. Our value is a calm, sourced explanation of a task someone is about to do.

How a guide gets published

A guide begins with the primary source: a state driver handbook, a DMV form list, a park reservation page, a veterinary association guideline, a published menu. We read the source before we write the advice.

Then we check the advice against the documents a reader would actually use: a DMV form list, a park reservation page, a shelter intake sheet, a train's published room layout. Where we cannot verify something, we say so and point to the office that can.

Every guide carries a publication date and a revision date. When a rule changes, the guide is revised and the date moves. When we get something wrong, we correct it in place rather than quietly rewriting the page.

What we publish

Process guides, explainers and reference pages. No listicles padded to fill a page.

What we avoid

Invented statistics, fake reviews, paid placement and claims about people we have not spoken to.
